Bulletin Announcements from Sunday, March 07

You are encouraged to take a walk this week with the Lord by reading Ephesians. May the Lord make your heart burn with joy at the Good News and your place in His Kingdom!

WEDNESDAY LENTEN SERVICES (about one half hour in length) will reflect on the events surrounding Jesus’ arrest, appearance before the Sanhedrin and before Pilate, and death on our behalf and for our salvation. I invite you all to make some time in your week to gather with fellow members to worship and thank our Lord. We prepare our hearts as we grow in understanding the magnitude of what our Triune God did on our behalf to give us life everlasting. We will worship at 11:30 AM (followed by lunch) and 7:00 PM. Pastor Tom

CHOIR UPDATE: Both the women’s group and mixed group singing on Good Friday evening will practice at 6 p.m. on Wednesday the 17, 24, and 31 of March (prior to 7 p.m. Lenten services) and the Easter Festival Choir will practice after Lenten services on those same dates. Participants may sing with all or any of the groups.

EMMAUS YOUTH: A few opportunities for youth are coming up in the next couple of weeks. I need a response for most of these items so we can plan for rides, etc. Ed Krum: (call the office for his contact information)
March 11-14 - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Concordia Academy: We’re trying to get a group together to go. Most likely Thursday night, but if you can’t go with the group, try to get there anyway if you can.
March 14th - Afternoon/Early Evening: We will be doing a service event for a local food shelter.

EASTER EGG HUNT: We are in need of donations for the Easter egg hunt: wrapped candies, small toys or small coins. Contact Nicole Pierce. Easter Egg Hunt will be April 10th at 10 a.m. – please call Maria at church so we can have a head count.

REMINDER: If you haven’t brought in your Mite box yet, please do so by next Sunday.

BRIAN YOUNG, a nationally known speaker and author will be sharing at Central Lutheran School from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11. Mr. Young has debated numerous professors at secular universities challenging the traditional views of evolutionary origins. He will give answers to common questions such as: Where did Cain get his wife? Are dinosaurs in the Bible? How could people live 900 years before the Flood? How old is the earth and what about the dating methods? What caused the ice-age? Can a Christian believe in evolution without contradicting the Bible? What does the fossil evidence tell us about origins? All these and many more issues will be addressed as well as time to ask questions on any topic you desire. Although all ages are welcome and will enjoy the topics, the information presented will be most beneficial for ages 10 and up.

OUR LUTHERAN LAYMEN’S LEAGUE St. Paul South Rally and Banquet is March 14, 2010, at Emmaus Lutheran at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. Tickets are $10. Entertainment is our bell choir and Dr. Mark Press is our speaker. Please let Bill Rogers know by March 7 if you would like to go.

A DAY AT BETHESDA HAS BEEN PLANNED JUST FOR YOU! A two-day bus tour will depart from Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins and Messiah Lutheran Church in Mounds View on Thursday, April 8, highlighted by a visit to Bethesda’s largest campus in Watertown, Wisconsin. Come, join us and enjoy the beautiful scenic highways of Minnesota and Wisconsin. For details and reservation information, please call Mary Schaumberg, Development Technician, at 1-800-383-8743, ext. 3470.

PAUL MANZ HYMN FESTIVAL: Metro Lutheran will sponsor a Palm Sunday Hymn Festival in tribute to the late Dr. Paul Manz, modern founder of the hymn festival. This festival will be hosted by Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 3045 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis. It will feature organist David Cherwien and representatives of a number of Lutheran college choirs. The festival, a benefit for Metro Lutheran, will begin at 4 p.m.

METRO LUTHERAN IS HERE: The devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti is still hard to take in. But Minnesota Lutherans were there providing service to the nation’s poor people when the earthquake hit, and even more arrived to help with disaster relief after the world shook. Read about some of the stories of faith and courage on pages 22 and 23 of the March issue.

SPRING GARAGE SALE at King of Kings (2330 N. Dale St., Roseville) on Saturday, March 20 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. We will have a variety of good used clothing, jewelry, toys, books, household appliances, dishes and glassware, some furniture, electronics, etc.

RECYCLING: Concordia Academy-Roseville is a recycling drop-off site for used ink-jet and toner cartridges, cell phones, laptop/notebook computers, iPods, digital cameras and digital camcorders. Simply bring items to church on Sunday (put used ink cartridges in a plastic bag). There is a yellow box on the counter in the office for dropping off the smaller items – if something doesn’t fit, leave it on Maria’s desk with a note. The funds generated by the recycling will be used to purchase books for the Concordia Academy Library. Thank you for keeping these items out of the land fills, and for helping CA raise funds for new books!

BOX TOPS, ETC: Campbell's soup/product UPC barcodes; Kemp's milk caps; General Mills ‘Box Tops for Education’ and Nestles water bottle labels may be put in the box on the counter in the Emmaus office to be taken to Central Lutheran School. Through these programs, CLS is able to receive a wide array of school supplies and products which help the school, the classrooms, the teachers and students. Such items include tether balls, markers, pencil sharpeners and reference books. Please clip the UPC barcode from Campbell’s soup can labels – not front labels. For certain items (as indicated on the list of participating products) save the jar lid. Put them all in the blue box on the counter in the Emmaus office. For lists of eligible products and other information, you may visit www.labelsforeducation.com and www.boxtops4education.com.

LWML Q&A

Q1: Is LWML sponsoring a blood drive? A1: No, but we are looking for “new blood” in the sense of “new active members” and therefore are phrasing this as “looking for blood donors” and/or “looking for new blood.”

Q2: May men contribute “new blood” to LWML? A2: Your blood is as good as ours! We would love to count you as a blood donor; however, in all fairness we must tell you that the current constitution of the LWML does not allow you to be an “official donor.” But, maybe our society could count you as an associate member. Regardless we would appreciate your encouragement; and, if your spouse wants to come to a “gathering” and you have young children, perhaps you would be willing to baby sit for her so she can attend. Your support, in whatever way, means a lot to us.

Q3: When is the Spring Rally? Do they serve food? A3: April 17th in the morning. A brunch is served at 9:00. No charge, free will offering. Please see the poster in the narthex for more information.

Q4: Is there a main speaker at the Spring Rally and if so, who is it? A4: The main speaker is our Pastor and his topic is “To the Ends of the Earth.” If you check under the magnifying glass on the publicity poster I think you may get a feel for the focus.

Q5: Are there any more times we can sign up to be in the communication loop? A5: Yes, matter of fact, today, the 7th of March is another sign up opportunity. There will be a sign up sheet next to the library and someone there to answer your questions as well.

Q6: If I sign up to be in the communication loop for LWML am I obligated to attend a meeting? A6: No, but attending the Spring Rally would be one way of finding out more about LWML.

Q7: What’s a speedy way to get up to date on LWML tidbits? A7: You guessed it, check out the Tidbit Board in the narthex and while you are at it check out the display in the staircase (but don’t trip by ignoring the stairs) too.

LWML Tidbit #2: Lutheran Women in Mission is affiliated with the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and women 18 and older who are members of this church body are automatically considered members. It would be great if Emmaus had more activated members. Would you like to help us?
